Online rules for campaigns and other conversations

I am going through my notes from last class. And I got absorbed into Garrett’s lecture and as he did forget to mention the numbers, I forgot to write the numbers to each learned lesson from Howard Dean’s campaign in 2003 and 2004. As far as I can collect the lessons learned are:

1. People want authenticity

2. You do not have to get this (web 2.0) to become a success

3. Harness the power of many

4. Accept organic growth

5. Have nothing to loose

6. Accept your supporters

7. Give the supporters the ownership of the campaign

8. Get beyond your own organization and its environment

9. Move first

10. Keep it simple

Rosie, Jenny, Becky, Paul,LilyanneKristen, and the rest of you did I miss anything?

  1. Your notes match mine, but Garrett prefaced his list with two “overarching” points:
    1. The Internet is not for everyone – each person, group and organization needs to make personal choice of what and how to use Web 2.0.
    2. Doing this badly is worse than not doing it at all – you can do real damage.
